    Default Help Setting Up PayPal

    Hello all,

I have a PayPal account that is connected to my credit card for online purchases of CD's, clothing, concerts etc.

However, I want to set up a new account not to purchase, but to receive payments for services. Some of my clients live far away, and allowing them to pay me through PayPal would be a simple solution.

Is there anything I need to know before setting this up, or would just the standard business/sell productions option be sufficient? I will not be using subscription payments.

Yes, in my opinion you can do that, it is very much possible, you can go for the standard business/sell productions option even if you are not going to use the subscription payments it will not affect in any way.

You need to be careful if you are receiving a high volume of payments in a personal account because that happened to me and I was investigated for money laundering funny now but not so much at the time.

Good point with the high volume :surprised: Converting your personal PayPal account to a simple merchant account is what many of my clients do. If you have incorporate of course you can make a separate account specifically for that.

I have used a personal account to receive payments for years with no problems to be honest, and if you get the PayPal debit card for your personal account you can even have instant access via the ATM or purchasing using it as a credit card so it is extremely convenient, especially if you have to use part of what they are paying you in order to order merchandise or outside services...keeps everything clean and simple books wise.

Thanks for the advice! I don't plan on being high volume at the moment. Just need a way for some customers to pay me who live farther away. These payments will be a few times a year at the most.

According to you webcrafter, I can always convert my account to that of merchant? If so, I guess keeping my personal account is best for now?

If you don't want to lose your hard earned money then stay away from paypal. They are the biggest ligitimate scammers the world has ever known. They will suspend your account once you start making good money.
    I will suggest use moneybookers.

I have used paypal for like 5 years + and I havent had a problem. and at times over that period I have had income up to 5K a month. Yes the fees are high, but paypal mostly does what it says it does, I say upgrade to the business account as soon as possible.

If you have not tried the Paypal check out experience, click on the "Buy Me a Drink" button to the left of this post, and experience paypal!!! LOL
