You just want to take more spy pics of me!![]()

Given those two options the Canon without a doubt!!!
The only reason why I would tell someone the Nikon is if they already have a bunch of Nikkor lenses to use with the D50...
and really the D50 is not even in the 'same class' as the Xti...the D80 would be closer as far as specs are concerned.
even then I'd say Canon
edit:
a very extensive head to head comparison: http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/con...ra-Review-.htm
to me it comes down to image quality and the best high ISO performance in which case Canon is a winner

Ok thanks! I was leaning towards the Canon, I have read a lot of good things about them. I have also read some good reviews about the Nikon. And I have always been a fan of Nikon, but from what I have read the Canon is a better camera. Now all I have to do is talk the fiancee into it!lol:slaugh:

it all depends on your budget and or intended usage...is it going to be a camera for personal stuff, professional type shots, specialized...
Yeah, the kit lenses aren't "the best" but they are good all around lenses - good focal lengths for everyday stuff...so I would probably recommend getting it if you are just starting out.
3rd party lenses are "ok/good" for the price...However, Canon lenses are superior to the Tamrons, Tokinas, and Sigmas of the world but hey....not everyone can afford the professional lenses...heck I don't even own any of the "L" lenses yet. The Canon "L" lenses are the cream of the crop - another reason they are favored over Nikon....BUT most of them start @ $1K and just go nuts from there.
That being said, if you are on a modest budget get the kit lens and add on from there based upon your needs.
If you are curious,
I use a Canon 50mm/1.4, and the rest is Sigma 24-70mm/2.8, 28-300mm/3.5-6.3, 105mmmacro/2.8, 12-24mm/4.5-5.6
one thing to remember, digitals have a "crop factor" so the advertised focal length of each lens is mm x crop factor...most of them are 1.6X
where < 35mm = "wide angle"
50mm = "normal view"
70+= "zoom"

Thanks, I will keep all that in mind! I wont be buying Canon lenses, maybe if one comes with the camera! But I will probably go with Sigmas or Tamron.
Thanks again!

I decided to go for the SLR style rather than an actual SLR camera.
I'm very new to photography, and I thought if I got used to the SLR style, it'll mean when I move on to a proper SLR, it won't be as big a jump between the two.
I opted for a Fujifilm S9500 and I couldnt be more happier with it. I'm going to Oslo in February and will be taking photos like a maniac, especially of the viking ships, snowy mountains, etc.

kids, nothing wrong with that!
do you have any test shots of whatever? post em!!!
I am now seriously considering buying the XTi over the 30D. Not only is it $400 cheaper but it has the anti-dust mechanism, 10MP, and has about the same buffer size, though is not as fast as the 30D (3 frames per second vs. 5fps w/ the 30D).
Hey, can you do something for me?
I'd love to see some shots taken @ 1600ISO. just take a few shots inside and outside without using the flash. link to the original files....I want to see how much noise there is.
My Rebel is horrendous at high ISO's. I start seeing noise by 400ISO I think and then by the time you hit 1600 forget about it!
I'm surprised the XTi does not go to 3200ISO....I have a firmware hack for mine that allows me to do it!!! but like I said, if you can imagine how noisy 1600 is, 3200 for me is an adventure!!

after like 2 weeks and who knows how many hundreds of photos, I finally had to change the battery in the XTi this weekend!!
I love having a battery last that long! They've come a long way since I bought my Digital Rebel almost 4 yrs ago.
