I am so excited and I just can't hide it.

"My Precious" arrives on Monday. My first real taste of having a top notch professional type lens.

The Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM

Oh buddy it is a beauty.

With Canon lenses, L=Large and in charge. It's the best lens type that they make and while it's very pricey you can't argue with the quality of the images.

It'll also be my first lens with a Image Stabilizer which allows you roughly "3-stops" of light....

The 3 stop advantage means that photographers normally shooting a 105mm lens handheld at 1/125 sec can obtain a shake free result with a shutter speed as low as 1/15 sec, for vastly extended options in low light conditions.

Needless to say I'll be off the couch 22-34 times on Monday whenever I think I hear a UPS truck!

the $800 LT was a tough sell after the fact, as I had not made the money yet :P

BUT that's one more reason FedEx owns UPS...given the choice I'd have used FedEx even if it was 11.77% more expensive. The FedEx guy gets here usually 10am-2pm...UPS, not so much

Good for you! I'm lucky and live above a post office for some reason the ups guy stops here every day normally between 11-12.

UPS is my favorite shipper other than the USPS.

We are the tail end of UPS deliveries.
So that means after 3pm.
Fedex is here in the morning.

But the glorious USPS, the postal service, delivers to us at no later than 830 am.
ANd if any packages, the carrier comes to the door.

UPS was never good to me back when I was in shipping/receiving....procurement of parts for an engineering firm; I was the buyer as well. I was also a technician there and hey, was their photo guy of course...jack of all trades, master of none :P

anyway, UPS consistently burned me on overnight packages and Saturday deliveries...may they burn their toast in heck.

Sometimes one has to wonder about UPS.
Had not too long back something shipped from California to here.
Tracking it, 3 days out of California!
Then 2 days in Kansas.
On the seventh day, it made it to Iowa.
And since it was a weekend, had to wait until Monday.
And this was supposed to be 2 day service!
Man, UPS then covered me and the shipping with paperwork for me to get my money back.
Finally did.

wow, that is the earliest USPS I have ever heard of...ours is consistently inconsistent between 11am to 2pm but mostly towards 1pm...my poor Dad though, he has a "Newman" on his route...lucky if he gets his stuff by 7pm!!!! small town too...it's not like he's too busy...must be taking several naps throughout his route.

a guy on my myspace photo group is quite perturbed with them...mis routing on his new lens...what can brown do for you indeeeeeeeeeeeeed

Hey, when I had my post office, all the box mail was up by 9am, only later if the delivery came in late.
Had no carriers, just me!

camera is OLD, not only in time but now they have made 2 more generations of the Rebel...XT and just recently the XTi

I bought a used lens this week :love:

So now I have a "real" (my term for good) zoom lens. The one I had prior was a cracker jax lens compared to this.



pictured is also a 3X teleconverter which is why it looks so long :P

the zoom lens itself ends at the 2 red dots on top and on the side about 3/4 the way down from the black lens hood.

the lens is a 70-200mm/4L.

They also make a version that has image stabilization (IS) but it's nearly twice as expensive.

THEN they also make a faster version F/2.8 but it's twice as expensive as the one I have now; the IS version of the F/2.8 is > 3x more expensive than the one I have

Wow, that thing is HUGE! It makes the camera look so small. See, I guess size does matter huh?

Tim, so many settings, buttons, etc. to adjust, how do you keep track?

ummm, only with camera equip

the camera is quite small already though. it's about 32.33% smaller than my old camera body I think!

that's why I get paid the big bucks :P or could be paid the big bucks :P or want to be paid...

it just comes with time, and like most things including shaving one's back, practice (I do not shave my back btw, I hire someone...j/k)

saw this guy the other day. He was chillin' near wal-mart of all places...actually wal-mart was probably his old feeding ground



he was all too aware of me...didn't let me even get a shot of him on the light pole!

{also, I wasn't nearly this close to him, this is a big 'ol crop!}

my last new toy for quite a while...a set of extension tubes.

they basically give you macro w/out any image quality loss
