    smarty - yes, but phpld?? Is that php Link Directory? If so, it might not be too hard to replace the code that creates pages with code that uses a smarty template to output the same results. I know that there would be an advantage with speed, but I wonder how much work your site has to with simply phpLD running -- requiring any use of smarty unless you already have something that requires smarty?

    The other consideration for increasing your speed would be to try to have your server use gzip compression. If all of your code uses a single config or settings file, it would be a single line of code to compress the output. See http://www.gidnetwork.com/tools/gzip-test.php - a page that tells you how to get your php to use gzip and also lets you test any URL to see if it is served up using gzip.
