    Question What Is XAML?

What is XAML? I now it's a programming language. But that's all I know.
What else can you tell me about it?

Is it gaining in popularity? Do many people use it? Is it for video? Audio? Text? Games? What?

I get that much, but I really want to hear from programmers because they can tell me things that Google can't. I also checked out the Wiki page, but, again, not the kind of information I am looking for.

I want to know if it's popular with programmers, if it's gaining in popularity, good uses for it, what it can't be used for, etc.

You seem to get what XML does in as much as delivering data in an organized way to populate an array or object and sort and display it.

This is the same format, but the point is to design the web pages perhaps replacing HTML.

But, this is an MS product it seems. That brings up interesting issues as the article points out.

Looks very good for designers. Looks bad though if it can become pay to play.

Follow the silverlight.js link and see if that gives ya a better idea.

    Thanks Noppid.

I am getting the impression that not a lot of people are using/want to use it.
But, if it could replace html, then XAML would be something really big, no?

There seems to be an open spec that can prevail. But I don't know enough about it to really comment.

What I did garner is that this is about as screwed up as the sun java case where MS refused to license it from sun and made their own buggy version with proprietary coding. Sun prevailed and now MS uses the real thing IIRC.

In any event, it messes with programmers and businesses when something like this sits on the fence as to where it will go and if it will be proprietary or open. Open for stuff like web page design is imperative IMO. The web should never be dependent on one OS.

    XAML is heaven(not) It's a fairly heavy language(even though it's just xml)

The reason it's "depending" on two OS' is because Microsoft is still working on the linux binaries(Windows and Mac are already supported)
XAML is a part of Silverlight, and usally completed with XBAP

It's quite easy to learn, and works well when you want some nice effects, but it's a resource hog.

I've never heard of it...But from reading the wiki link in the above post, I gather that it is quite a proprietary language....Seems like another attempt from MS to tell us how to do it instead of hearing how we think it should be done.....I don't trust anything MS. As long as great open source software is available, like mozilla, php, linux, and HTML<---would that be considered OS?, then MS will never prevail.....

I've never really heard of it until now, but after doing some reading it rather worries me much like silverlight does.
