Thread: Bing Versus Google

As you may know Microsoft’s new search engine, Bing, had a great start. According to some news, it started to overtake Yahoo. Bing also grabbed market share from Google.

Is it possible? I don’t think so. People’s habit is hard to change and most of us is using Google as the default homepage. I think more creative ideas and some vision is needed to overtake Google.

Yes, it's possible, even if Google has ~ 81% and Yahoo! ~ 9% on search engines market share.

Don't forget that Bing it's not just a search engine, it's a decision engine, it's capable to select / organize the results in categories ( semantic web ).

Also don't forget google service until now, that Bing don't have !, like Adsense, adwords, my Google, Gmail ... Everybody is using Google on every internet related content !

I love google. But I admit, I checked out bing and it is pretty interesting and I may use it more often if the results I receive are better than Google.

As far as bing not having like webmaster tools, don't jinx it..You never know, they may develop something to compete.

I think its possible but its too early to say though. I agree that its really hard to change the habits of people and as far as I know most of us trusted google as a search engine.

1. Advertising program ( like AdSense & AdWords )
2. could use my MSN instead of iGoogle
3. Hotmail instead of Gmail

So, I hope that they will increase their market share just for one single reason: competition!

I have been seeing quite a bit of traffic coming from bing. In fatc over 2300 already this month for my biggest site. Funny thing is that its not listed under SEs but instead is under "Links from an external page"

Until Analytics is updated, you can add following line in your Analytics code to track Bing:

Bing need more years to compete google

I love Google and hate Microsoft but I want to be as many alternatives as possible. Someday Google will become evil if they will be the only one.

Well we should wait for some time .. but For me its doesnt seem that bing will make any dent in google market ..

And all this took place within a few years! So anything is possible. If any company has the resources to do it, it would be Microsoft. It was definitely a big mistake for Google to leak out that it is taking Bing seriously. That just encouraged people to look at Bing.

There is a competition brewing between the two, two search engines, selling ads, not sure of bing or microsoft has a program like adsense but it seem as though they would like to cut into Google's profits.

It's no contest now, but I sure hope Bing gets some market share. We really need a more competitive environment moving forward.

old habits are hard to change

I've started to see quite a lot of referrals coming from bing, so that's a promising start. Lets see how it fairs in a couple of months time.

Bing is now my homepage, I like the video search the best, hovering over the small video to watch trailers is a great way to save on bandwidth when searching for the right movie

Bing became number 2 momentarily and left Yahoo behind. It's more of a repositioning where people can start saying 'Bing It'. They couldn't say 'Live it' or 'MSN Search it' earlier ;-)

Yeah I would much prefer to use Bing than msn etc. It's nice imo :content:

Most of all people are using Google for search result.
But i like to see Bing. Yes i do not get any search result in Bing but i like to use it.
But it take too long time to take over Google.

yes most of people are using Google but Bing is not bad. I like to see its theme.

I would say Yahoo is more scared at this point than Google. If Bing takes marketshare from Yahoo, then Yahoo may have no choice but to sell its search engine cheap to Microsoft. If that happens, you will have a combined search engine with more than 30% of the search market. This would be a completely new ball game for Google.

Microsoft I feel kinda failed with Bing. Personally I noticed absolutely no change in my SERPs position for any of my keywords meaning no major change to the algo and they also should have placed a blog search. I have to admit it looks pretty and they bought millions in tv ads, but forgot to update and enhance the product itself. Hopfully if they really want to compete they will add some useful features and enhance the advanced search. Just my thoughts Bing is a flashy joke with a hundred million dollar marketing campaign when the money runs out the buzz will die.

Bing is basically just Live/MSN.

I don’t see myself giving up Google, especially given the default Firefox browser integration.
I also believe that bing is not a google killer... google will remain on the top spot

Microsoft has been taking some steps in the right direction lately, and I think Bing is one of them (also Windows 7 upgrade pricing, plus the free antivirus release). However, if they think Bing will put a big dent into Google they are sorely mistaken.

Yeah i still prefer google but it is possible to overtake google especially for microsoft it will take time but you never know, people said this about yahoo before google.

I am using Bing video search instead of Google video search. Just try and you will see why it is better than Google.

Bing is a big advancement for Microsoft’s search efforts. Its improved but long way to meet google!

I think that rather than spending millions to advertise all they really needed to do was spend the millions on programming and make a search engine that is actually better at bringing up sites with higher relevancy and combating spam. Surely they will get a bump, but not nearly what they paid for.

Bing has already nabbed approximately over 8.9% of the total search engine optimization market. Hopefully, it will make more improvements in coming years.

The more I use Bing the more I like it. I'm glad that eventually MS developed a serious search engine.

Bing is nice but Google is a big search engine. Google = Internet

Sure it could overtake google, but will it? Google has a solid hold on the search market for now so it will take a lot to bump them.

I do like bing however and it really loves one of my sites. I am ranking #4 for a keyword that has doubled my traffic to it. So long live bing and its traffic to my site.
