Thread: What is Better? Bing Site Search or Google Site Search?

I currently have Google Site Search on all pages of my site, which allows people to type in any search term and automatically searches all of my web pages which are already indexed in google for that particular search term.

I just looked into Bing Site Search today, and must say that their site search looks much better and is overall more customizable, also lets you to specify up to more than one URL or Domain that Bing Site Search will scan.

I decided to stay with Google Site Search only because currently they have 159 out of a total of 164 pages of mine indexed.

Bing currently only has 34 pages indexed, however I have been seeing more and more pages of mine being indexed by Bing everday.

If Bing manages to get up to the same amount of pages indexed as Google does, then I will definately switch to having my site visitors use Bing's Site Search instead of Google.

What do you guys think?

The problem i found with bing and ask is that their search is narrow especially if you are using search the web tool.

Ok a little off topic, but bing is now in the process of increasing the size of it's entire index immensely and on a large scale.

This thread is asking about comparing Bing and Google's Site Search not Web Search.

Site Search is when site visitors are able to search within just one site and not all across the web.

Bing Site Search, allows you to set it up to where it can be able to search within up to 10 different sites that you specify, very good for webmasters who have more than one site....you can set up a search network within you own sites, awesome thinking if executed properly

If you have google search on your site. You will get paid every time somebody uses it and click on sponsored links in SERP. So I think there is no comparison between Google and bing.

I have heard and read about adsense for search on people's sites. I thought it was a cool idea.

Interesting, I did not even think about that...but currently I am not using adsense at all, or any revenue-generating service. My goal is not to make money from my sites, the goal is what will eventually be better for my site visitors in the long run, not what is best for me personally.

I feel avidly strong about my mission and will not let potential monetary earnings motivate or influence any decisions I make for my sites.

But thanks, you do have a valid point...if I currently were an adsense user and out for profit, that decision alone would have made me stick with google...but for me that is not my case.

But I would recommend it to other webmasters however!

This might sound like a dumb answer Try as an experiment for a mo or so just use the Bing search. Maybe, just maybe, by having the search on your site Bing might find and index more of your pages. If G has the 159 what harm would it cause if you tried the get more from Bing???

If bing still don't find and add more of your good content you can always go back to G.

That is an excellent idea and you know what, I just might try it...should give bing more of a reason to crawl and index my site if I actually have their site search script on my pages.

yeh yeh adsense can start you from nowhere, where others cant start you from anywhere. but your point is home.

Google is always better for everything haha

In an attempt to get this thread back on topic, I would like to provide the following example:

Google offers a Site Search Box for webmasters to place on their site

Bing offers a Site Search Box for webmasters to place on their site

These Site Search Boxes provide visitors who visit your site to search content only found on your site.

You simply copy and paste some code onto your site and the Site Search Box will appear on your site.

When I started this thread I was asking for opinions on which of the two is better.

So as an experiment I placed both on my site, please visit my home page Biology-Nation for examples.

Google Site Search Box is on the top center of the page

Bing Site Search Box is just below the title and subtitle of the page on the right.

I hope this refocuses the intention of the thread, and also can finally provide me with the answers & feedback I was seeking in the original post

I would say Google Search.. and why not google search from Adsense..?? it will help you earn as well

I would also go for Google. Almost all aspects of internet are dominated by Google.

I prefer Google Search, but Bing certainly comes in second place, ahead of Yahoo! Search.

Google site search is better then bing and ask site search. So it is good practice to put google site seach in your website instead of yahoo, bing. second good option for putting site search is bing site search...

Google is best and king of all search engine billions of user use google to search and find out there problems and many things.

If your sites pages is allready indexed in google then there is no risk in trying other way coz it just added benefit to you only and if you got no results then Google is there for you always.
So it good to do experiments and changes so that we get to learn more and new.

Thus use Bing also and let see how well you can able perform here.

Much thanks for this response....I agree what is wrong with experimenting and trying out new things. It could only better my Search Engine Results by having both options on there.

Also, some site visitors may have preferences, some may want to use the Google Site Search on my site, and others may want to use the Bing Site Search on my site. It is kind of like having two different skins on a forum, some users prefer one skin, and other users may prefer the other skin.

This once again goes to show that designing your website for your site visitors, instead of for search engines will give you better gains, and site visitor loyalty.

Bing is not a good solution for searching
against bing, Google is very efficient and provide valuable search results.

My vote is in the favour of Google search because its results are more accurate and fast as compare to other search engine.

Google Site Search is better then bing.

i like google site search more then any other site search
