    Default Many search engines

When I decided to launch my site, I wanted to have it indexed on Google, Yahoo and MSN. I was doing some research on the same. I got know about thousands of other search engines. So does it mean that a site should be listed on all search engines? Are all these search engines reliable? Or is it okay to have your site indexed on Google, Yahoo and MSN? Can someone shed light on it? I want to know about it at the earliest. I would appreciate any tips, inputs and guidance in this regard.

Just to get indexed with those very well known or major search engines is what important.

If you get indexed on Google, that means you have some backlinks that they crawled and came to your site, and that means that every other search engine will do the same, some will find you fast some slow, but it's nothing to worry about. as other posters said, just focus on main search engines.

If you have good content and a few links, all engines will find you. There really is no reason to seek inclusion, use your time in creating more useful content for your site.

Getting indexed is easy in any SE but these days it's only important to worry about Google and Bing (since Yahoo is using Bing's results now).

Just throw up at least 8 to 10 400 to 500 word articles to have a nice "base" to start with. If you're using wordpress, just have a nice pinglist set up so it'll ping each time you make a new entry. No need to do any additional pinging.

If you can't grab any good backlinks from relevant sites off the bat, just do some quick social bookmarking and then ping those links using something like Pingler or Pingoat.

After that, you should be indexed within a day or two at most. You won't be ranking well for anything right off the bat, but you will be indexed in Google and shortly after, Bing and Yahoo.

Getting Indexed in Google will get you 70% of traffic... but that does not mean that the remaining 30% can be ignored... As those 30% can proove to be the most usefull traffic for your site.

But it is generally noticed that if you are able to rank among top search engines you will rank good in remaining as well

Getting indexed in many search engines is good, but I suggest you to give more time in making your content more useful. In that way, getting indexed in search engines is not that hard if your content has a good quality.

You just have to get indexed in major search engines. And let the other make their way.

Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, and Ask. All others made up less than 10% of the pie. Also, note that AOL gets their results from Google— so you might not want to count them separately.
