HTML is the source code of most web pages and is the main language for internet sites.

As far as SEO goes the following html tags are important:

<title></title> Specioally for your pahe title but also for link and image titles as well
<h1></h1> main heading of the page, this and h2's are very important factors in seo.
<h2></h2>
<h3></h3>
<h4></h4> All these are headline tags, actually they go up to h6 but not needed, h1 and h2 as a minimum but better if you can use all up to h4
alt="" make sure that something relevant in inside your alt tags not left blank (alt="something relevant about the page keyword")
<!--comments in your page code--> These are often forgotten but do help.

<meta name="description" content="Place something relevant here that is easy to read by humans and contains your keyword" />
<meta name="keywords" content="Place page keywords here, don't go to extreme just 3 to 6 is enough" /> This is not used by google anymore but is by other search engines.
<stong></stong> use these for your keywords throughout your content, this is the code that makes your text bold.
<em></em> same as bold but for italic.

There's quite a few more but that's enough to get you ranking in the right search results.
