Well, i love forum posting to get backlinks because i never work with profile linking. Nevertheless, i know the things one should consider before doing profile linking like,

    1. Is it an authority site?
    2. Is it a high PR site?
    3. Is the site relevant to your own website?
    4. Is it a site with an active community?
    5. Are the profile links dofollow?

I would prefer both profile and forum posting and profile would go the second for me as still forum posts give not bad traffic for the site

In my experience both of them work to rank for keywords.Although forum posting looks more natural than profile backlinking where you just leave your backlinks.

Forum posting also puts your links directly in front of eyeballs and builds relationships. The whole point of SEO is of course to use the SE to put your links in front of people. If you're reading this post, my sig is in front of you right now, so I've already won even if no SE ever sees this post.

Actually I'm not sure if my sig shows on this site yet, but you get the point. In addition, we are having a conversation and one day our conversation will probably turn toward one of our products, Strongbox or Throttlebox. That doesn't happen with profile links.

Further, for the SEs each thread provides a bunch of yummy words for the search engine spiders to chew on.

All this of course assumes actual posting of real messages like this one, not automated junk. If you post automated spam on forums you will probably get what you deserve eventually.

I had created many profile links last summer but none appeared as backlinks and moreover most get deleted with time as there is no participation of the user.

Why waste time on profile building or linking if you do not intend to participate on the forum or blog. The profile will get deleted for non activity thus over time, your effort will be put to waste. It would be better to have a few profile for forums like this one and participate.

I agree with this. Plus many profiles are NoFollow so you are not getting any SEO benefit. Without participating in the forum itself, you are not getting the benefit of exposure either. I think forum posting is better. As Raymor said earlier, your link is being advertised to users with each post you make. Even if there is no SEO benefit, you are still getting in front of the people you are trying to attract to your website.

profile linking and forum posting both gives you the best result. when we give link in our profile bio then we get do follow link. 99% of the profile links are do follow. when we registered in some community or in some sites. Either we get no follow link in that community or site then also if we put link in our profile bio then we get dofollow back link.

As per my view forum posting is better than profile linking because there is a more chance to get back links through forum posting as compared to profile linking. Forum posting means to comment on a thread creating by a registered member of particular forums and profile linking means to create profile with various forum sites and other similar sites by putting your website link into the profile.

Profile link is one way to create back link to your site by adding your site to a personal, professional or business profiles. Signing up to a social network and be a member is also another example. Forum posting is writing comments in a forum. I hope this one could help.
