On-page optimisation (on-page SEO) is what can be done on the pages of a website to maximise its performance in the search engines for target keywords related to the on-page content.

Off-page optimisation (off-page SEO) is what can be done off the pages of a website to maximise its performance in the search engines for target keywords related to the on-page content and keywords in off-page direct-links.

On page Optimization are related directly to the content and structure of the website. This normally consists of pages written in the HyperText Markup Language but also applies to other document formats that are indexed by search engines, for example Microsoft Word or PDF formats. On-page optimization involves modifying keyword frequency in the URL, Title, Headings, Hypertext Links and Body text while the Off page Optimization are elements that have less to do with the actual site.Off Page Characteristics refer to all links both from pages contained within a particular web site and from pages of other web sites that point to these specific pages. But, There is never a confusion regarding which is more important between on page and off page characteristics because both are equally as important.

On-page seo is what you do with your website. It includes picking the right keywords, adding the content, installing your vital plug-ins. Off-page seo on the other hand involves the promotion of your website. SEO is a big part of it, link building, blog commenting, forum posting are all related to off-page seo.

OFF page: Directory submission, bookmarking, blog comments, forum posting

working on your website content,title,sitemap,tags,choosing keywords etc. is on page optimisation and making links for your website is off page optimisation.....

On-page optimization is when you update your home page, edit SEO elements of your site like meta tags, h1 tags, titles, articles with keywords etc.

Off-page optimization is when you create links pointing to your site. You may link articles or just blog commnets, forum profiles, submit the site in directories, make Hub ans Squidoo pages.

Off-page optimization is mostly about link building and online promotions
