Default Social Networking Sites - Successes/Failures?

I'm interested in whether anyone has found big success through submitting to social networking sites such as Digg/StumbleUpon. They're so widely publicized, yet only sites that are already very large seem to perform well on them. Surely there major flaw is that they are a catch 22 - you won't get traffic from diggs as nobodies digging you, as you aren't getting enough traffic...

I've only ever gotten around 7-8 diggs (for 1 article) tops and perhaps 100 hits tops from StumbleUpon.

People usually pay to have their site reach the first page, which generates traffic, which might get them more digs keeping it constant traffic.

Personally I think that it isn't very good traffic that comes from these sites, it doesn't really convert with advertisements and/or sales.

The only value I have found from them is when I stumble Squidoo lenses. Stumbling lenses can give them a boost in traffic and improve the lens rankings on Squidoo.

Yeah I completely agree with this. I recently wrote an article entitled 'Ego Traffic' explaining the pros/cons of this kind of traffic and how to deal with it.

i must stress that "getting traffic from digg is worthless really" but stumble traffic i see its good for CPA CPL affiliates as it convert well.

But if you articles is very interesting and worth commenting you'll get good traffic from any social networking sites.

write some articles that force people to quarrel or fight for yes or no answers it will sure hit the front page.

    Default About social networks.

I have joined several social networking sites. Because, people saying involvement with this kind of sites, will bring enough traffic. But I am not getting enough traffic. What would be the reason?

I don`t think it`s worthwhile to spend too much time on social networks. I reckon there has to be some manipulation to really get noticed.

I do like Stumbleupon though, it`s easy and quick, and does bring a certain (in my case limited) amount of traffic.

I find digg a good source of traffic, same as stumble, though I have a little problem with stumble, I can't log in to my account though it's already validated

IMHO such a traffic is useless. Visitors come only one time, some of the visitors check few pages and leave forever.

You need to have realy GREAT website in order for them to comeback.

I once had over 650 uniques from stumbleupon so it's more luck based, it also depends on your reputation in a certain social networking site.

I have gotten signups by advertising in advertising forums on apsense, adlandpro and orkut. You can easily get a few signups a day but it takes a lot of posting to do it.
