I don't know whether any of you are aware of this, but this month is the month where you will see a lot of discussions on the subject of autism. My nephew is autistic. He is 13 years old. He does not talk, is not completely potty trained, does not like loud noises, to name a few of the many things that he suffers from stemming from his autism.
There is also another form of autism that is not as noticeable as the kind of autism my nephew suffers from. It is called aspergers syndrome. I was diagnosed with Aspergers. For many years I was not aware of this until I read an article about someone who suffered from Aspergers syndrome. It was during this time a test confirmed the diagnosis. The best description of Aspergers is it is referred to as the "nerd" syndrome.
One of the symptoms of people who suffer from aspergers is their lack of social skills. Many, if not all tend to be loners.
This is why I like social networking sites. Within the confines of my own home, I find it easier to connect with people within a social networking site. I am not as easily intimidated and I find it easier to be myself. I think for anyone who is shy around people, social networking sites are a good place to develop some social skills. If you participate often enough in a few social networking sites, over time, one may start to develop some social skills and hopefully be able to transform those skills to real life.
This is currently what is happening with me. I have started making one-on-one presentations with people who are complete strangers. In the past, this would have been unheard of for me. I don't think I will ever feel comfortable around people, but I do believe I can get better at being a little more social around people. Having some social skills can only help me in my attempt to grow my business.
Just to let you know, there are some famous people who are aspergers. They include Bill Gates, Woody Allen, Bob Dylan, Bobby Fisher, Michael Jackson, and Keanu Reeves, and many more.
