Default What shared host i can use for social network start?

I'm planning with my team to develop social network project, so it is time to choose web hosting company. My project will run on PHP/Mysql, using ajax.

Share your thoughts about what host must have at speed and uptime. Found Host1Plus - maybe anyone knows about this hosting? Please do not offer hostgator, bluehost or dreamhost - because already find out from who already used them - they are very old, fully of clients and servers are slowly.

If you plan to grow quickly, I suggest a VPS or a dedicated server for your project.

If shared, what is your budget then so we can go based off that to give you an idea of who can meet your needs.

I am also interested in shared hosting only. I can not pay more for the site.

The problem with starting a social networking site on a shared host is your going to push the limits of your account in no time. Almost every shared host has a %limit on the amount of CPU you can use on your account at any given time. You will need a vps. I would get your money together to pay for a vps for 6 months start your site.

Exactly. Most hosts CPU limit is between 20% to 25%...You go above that and they will most likely suspend (even sometimes terminate) your account. That is not because they wish to be jerks, but its because of the fact that it is a shared environment and if you are hogging all the resources then other customers will be having issues. That is exactly the reason why they created VPS's and the ability to get your own dedicated server as well so you wouldnt necessarily (at least not with a dedicated server) worry about it.

What's the problem with Dreamhost? They did have issues last year but they've solved them now. I have a couple of low/medium traffic sites with them without any issues.

I agree though, if you are going to grow quickly you need VPS as a minimum. Also gives you 100% control to tune up the site the way you want it.

I'd recommend A2 Hosting. They've been nothing but great for me! Search Google for reviews of them and they seem to be all positive.

So like everybody said you should switch to dedicated
But i Understand that a tight Budget could be some times a real problem

Hostgator makes the trick without any problems take the Baby or Business account .

But just a question are you gonna develop your site from scratch ?? Or are you gonna use a Finished script ?
If i can give you a advice and if you consider taking a ready script use Dolphin (Boonex.com) great options easy to install a good community about that script. The branded version of Dolphin is Free ( perfect for a tight budget ). If you have a "little Budget" and your site talks about music and artists use Jamroom (79usd). Finally if you want a great script with many options great support staff Phpfox is the answer only problem the basic version costs 300 dollars(with branding).
When searching for such scripts on the Internet you will find very often sites talking about ABK Soft's AbleDate... You should no matter what totally ignore it cost 500 dollars and it's a real piece of junk, all the sites saying good things about are fake..

If you expect much visits (over 35 users at the same time) you should consider deactivating ressource hungry processes like music in profiles or videos also trying to reduce the number of pixels of the pics. If you start having +-60 users at the same time you need dedicated.

If you need some advices feel free to contact me or to write in that thread. I have some experience in that field. I have 3 community sites using 3 different scripts.
Hope that i could help :angelic:

If you are really planning to expand your site, a dedicated server is worth it.
