Good tips Loco.. BTW, I've been half years working in my twitter accounts and all you need to do is targeted your competitors followers and interact with them. Then for sure you will gain your followers. Plus using a reliable tools can really helps.

honestly, i have an account on twitter but when they bombard me with spam I hated it but now i started using it again. LOL

I never tried using twitter for promoting my websites. But I'll give a try this time. Thanks for sharing a good tips.

good tips - although most are common knowledge. Still it could stand to be repeated. I'm still experimenting with it and trying to learn the ropes - I've only been on it for a week now.

The main point to keep in mind is that you are limited to 140 characters and whatever you have to do, is within that character limit, so you need to be wise enough to write stuff that attracts your followers.

The voice of your twitter profile, tweets and the company's goals and missions has to be on a single track. Be serious if you are tweeting for business. Also twitter has been a good customer care service for companies lately, like for eg. Paypal. But still don't take twitter as the only social tool for your company, you have to go beyond that too.

just unfollow the spammers, you can also block/report them as well
I never get spammers on my account, because I'm always removing them :mellow-f:

I decided to get creative with my twitter account and fill it with daily updates about tech stuff, tech news, webmastering and geek humor.

I have also seen some companies offer discounts just for following them on twitter. I've considered doing that.

Trust me, Twitter is one of my best social networking sites especially for those who have products to promote. For me, I promote Amazon lightning deals on the site. I have managed to write some Python scripts that updates my accounts with Amazon offers.

I initially started the account to post updates just like everyone else, but soon noticed that some of the people I was following were posting affiliate stuff with automated tools. So, as a self respecting hacker, I sat down and learnt the API.

My advice is if you find yourself spending too much time on Twitter and you're not getting anything in return, then move on to something else that will bring you some money.

Twitter is a great branding tool.. I am always posting, then tweeting the post.. gets plenty of immediate traffic if you've built a quality following.

You can check out an older post I made last year on how I declared myself addicted to Twitter..lol
It's pretty easy to build followers, follow those who are interesting to you, remove the ones that don't follow you back after a week or two, rinse and repeat.

no no dear, don't go away, you can automate your tweets by using some scripts like these scripts. it is great, you can stay away from twitter for even if more than a year and leave the script do the tweeting, and if there comes a time that you feel that you need to go back tweeting, then you can do it anytime with your old twitter account. there are also services that would build you up without spending too much money

I was frustrated earlier with my twitter account because I noticed that the number of spammers are rising, and its a bit annoying. Time to unfollow them.

I've noticed the same thing.

I know twitter is a good idea to provide your users with updates... but has anyone had success in getting members using twitter?

I think the most important thing in twitter is to keep it real. Don't feel like you have to bar yourself from keeping it real because of your perceived brand or credibility. Talk to people like you would talk to them if you met them in the bar. Cut out the jargon and keep it real. People love real people, you don't have to too much worry about grammar either, just type like you are thinking it.

Twitter Search, Twitter Directory, Twitter Yellow Pages :: Twellow works well for developing followers.

I did not know that any of these even existed? Do you just submit your URL to them? My site does not have an actually physical address location does this matter to be listed in a web yellow pages?

Twellow is for searching for twitter accounts. You can sign up, give them your twitter username and pick the most relevant categories for your account. Then, people with those interests will find and follow you. I get new followers every day, but there are some spammers and people with short attention spans who un-follow rather quickly.

Lol, yea that happens. Like this one guy who followed, he was an IT guy and he followed because I posted a tweet about potentially having a list of Biology Software Downloads available on my site.

After a day he realized that my site really is not about computers, I just wanted to add a software section to my site to help visitors... so he stopped following me, but its all good.

I honestly kind of have my Social Media Plan of Action on the back burner for now, I use Social Media to inform the world about site updates and new feature launches. However, once I load goes down or I can actually find some interested help. Then I am going to initiate a full over haul of my entire Social Media Strategy, currently only using myspace, facebook and twitter

Facebook beats Twitter. Twitter beats MySpace. I use all 3, though.

For those of us who use Twitter actively the 140 character limit is one of the most attractive features. It cuts down on the verbose and we dont have to read anyone's dissertation to find out what they are saying.
