MySpace teen grilled by Secret Service

US investigators last week pulled the student out of her classroom for questioning about a MySpace page that showed President Bush being stabbed in the hand with the words "Kill Bush" scribbled above the photo. Both Wilson and her parents thought the Secret Service's tactics inappropriate.

Yelling at her and threatening her, nice... she could be out doing a lot worse, doing things many teens do....

That's the way it is when a 'threat' is reported about the president.
Of course it wasn't a true threat, but I believe making even a threat at all is against the law in the US against a president.

What a waste of tax payers money.

Laws have been on the books for years making it illegal to speak the words "kill the President", you can go to jail for this sort of thing or any threat against a US President in America.

regardless of her "intent" you just can't pull stunts like that like SS says.

it would be the same if someone made a joke about 'bomb + plane' while in said transportation device.....not cool.

Here in my town, just yesterday, a kid posted in his blog that he had access to "dirty bombs" and was going to blow up several schools.

He was only kidding.
He's in jail.

I think that since 9/11, every threat, no matter how insignificant, needs to be investigated. These kids have to learn

yes he is. Why shouldn't he be? After all the school shootings and bombings, etc we've seen in the past few years?

I hope they keep him there for at least a few days... I betcha he'll think long and hard before he pulls this prank again.

If you watch the news, some people DO announce it when they're going to do stuff. The boys that shot up columbine school, and another school shooting just a few weeks ago, those kids all wrote in a diary or a blog and noone took them seriously. And look at what happened.............

not only that (jail), I think he should have to stand in front of his entire school and give a little speech as to why he thought it would be cool/funny/thought it made him a BAMF, to write about such things.

but I digress.

the GOOD thing is that he didn't put his thoughts into action.
hopefully he can turn it into a positive example to others in such matters.

I for one, got in trouble in my days for dumber things so I feel no remorse for someone who has broken the law to make a statement. You can't threaten anyone elses life without it being menacing why is it she thinks she can get away with making a 'joke' about the Presidant. With as many nuts out there, it could be fake, it could be real. Let not me be the idiot who gets caught trying to see how strict the Government is.

You can start if you'd like. I believe justice, etc as much as the next guy. Although, I do not condone allowing someone to get away with something that is written clearly in our law books. Sure she may be 14, but then maybe we should look at her caretakers, who school teachers, etc. Whoever is teaching her it's ok to do this stuff. Kids, just don't randomly come up with things .. they just don't. Not like that.

What happened to freedom of speech? I just think that there are really mor ethreats to this country then a MySpace teen, seriously, how scared would you be of a MYSpace chic in todays day? I think we should be focusing on much more important things

At being only 19 I have definitely argued with the law around here about 'Freedom of Speech'. Infact if you look here or moreso here you will see that I believe in free speech, but at the same time I respect our laws, and know how it 'really' works. I'm not being cocky, so please do not take me as this.

Anyways, I believe in Freedom of Speed just as much as everyone else, but you can't have the best of both worlds. Along with your Freedom of Speech - you are also given the right to feel safe, you are given the right to be defended by our legal system should you not feel safe. (Temporary Protection Order, Menacing Charges) - It almost is in comparison to Blasphemy. Please look at This link should you be an open minded person willing to learn the difference.

Politics doesn't seem to be, "in good fun" anywhere anymore. I think it is quite scary how strong people have become on politics. If only we would all take our political passions to the polls this Tuesday! (hint , hint everyone)

I'm a very open minded person, but no offense, at 19 I saw the world much differently. This is not a put down, I am, just making a point.
Which is more possible, a teenager getting through to the president to harm him, or our ports exploding do to lack of concern on securing them? I just think normal people EVERYWHERE on the net run off with their opinions with no intent.
But I agree with you, her parents should have taught her the number one rule, "Never put in writing what you don't want everyone to know about" she made a dumb move in posting her rant, I don't disagree with that. But I just think it is really putting more harm into it then would have ever come out of it.

Politics to me is fun. Not only do you get to strike the nerve of people who can't see past their money, but you get to get those angry that you know are wrong and that have realized you have prooved their cause false, or unimportant. I love debates.

I agree at 19 the world is different, but to me I'm just another adult. I've been on my own making it since I was 16. I was working in BurstNET Network Operations Center, at the age of 18 and have been programming for about 6 years. I have this down pat now, and have been able to see the world from a much more adult perspective for some time. Little time to hang out with friends throughout my days, but now I make sure I have this a lot.

Honestly? A chlid getting to our Presidant. It's almost impossible anymore to attack the United States. Sure, we've been hit..and what would seem to be a lot in the last 5 years. Although, think about it.. this is in comparison to whom? Isreal, and other holy land countries are being beaten on a daily basis. Our attacks are moot at this point to me, in comparison.

I agree, it's more harm than good. I mean, I'm not a great person. I'm intelligant and do what I can. Although, I still smoke Marijuana - Still do some hoodrat things like I used to back in the day, but I'm not afraid to admit what I've done and you won't see me getting arrested for saying that. Although you hear people talking of killing our Presidant everyday, and yet no one is punished - other than this 14 year old? Where's the justice on that matter?

Ummm remember the guys who shot up Columbine School and killed how many people?? THEY wrote about it on myspace. Everyone thought they were just mouthing off, and didn't pay any attention to them. BIG mistake.

You pretty much made my point for me. Why should a teenager be punished and not everyone else out their ranting hourly about hate and greedy.
As for justice, I've lost my faith in it, look at the white collar crimes, for example. There is no fair justice there. Justice is in the eyes of those in power. Our government has no problem snatching us up, with no explanation thanks to the Patriot act, but we, living in a "Democracy" can no longer have the right to express our opinions of the government?

I believe with Columbine, there were alot my signs then MYSpace, signs the police were conveniently ignoring that this was about to happen. The bottom line in that and MYSpace issue IMHO was uninvolved parents among other things. How did they not monitor their kids more?

If we are going to be judged on what we rant and rave about online then nearly the entire net would be arrested for bad comments or posting about marijuana usage LOL

Justice is in the hands of your attorney sorry. If you can't afford to resurrect Johnny Cochrane or someone of his quality you better hope the Judge knows a bit less or your attorney know something something. If you've been charged, and there's absolutely 'no' proof of you doing it.. (Even if you did) you can get off. Justice is Justice.. text book Justice.. not moral justice.
