Errr... so what do you get? A bare server where you have to install all the software from scratch yourself? Or does it start with cPanel for pure "users"?

And why does it ask for your TLD? On a VPS, surely you could host dozens of your own TLD's?

    Hi C0ldf1re, good questions!

Yes, what you get is a Virtual Private Server (VPS) where you can install the software you need yourself - whether you wish to use it for WebHosting, GameSever, Virtual Private Network (VPN), Test Server and Development Platform or simply Off-site Storage - the point is that it's yours to control as you please (within our TOS/AUP of course!). Plus, an advantage over Shared Hosting is that you do not share resources (i.e. RAM) with other clients which ensures your usage is not affected by theirs.

You can, or we can, install cPanel on the VPS – if you want!

“And why does it ask for your TLD?” – this is a requirement for compliance with ARIN regulations, concerned with the distribution of IP’s. And yes, you can host multiple IP’s.

I hope you see the main advantage is that you can use the VPS as you wish and not pay for services which you do not need or can easily learn to do yourself. Please let me know if you have any more questions!
    Regards,

    Phil

Many thanks for the reply, Phil.

Perhaps, with your system, I am looking at too basic a service for me. (It was the $15/year that attracted me, of course!)

The situation is that I have a dozen websites and blogs, each having a TLD, but they are all very tiny, awaiting a company re-launch.

A VPS seems like a good idea at any time, where you have nobody else likely to knock over the server, nor to hog the resources, and I imagined starting with a small VPS would make future upgrades so much easier.

But what I was imagining was facilities like I now have with shared hosting, a system configured and a cPanel set up where I can just add domain names, install WordPress or whatever from scripts, configure DB's and email addresses, and FTP the websites up. I need somebody to fix the server if it malfunctions, and preferably to see to automated backups and emergency restores. That is about it; I am no nuisance at all to my present hosts' technical support.

Certainly I know nothing about managing a web server, and almost nothing about Linux. (There is no point in my deluding myself that, as a C++ programmer, I could certainly learn these things, when I simply do not have the time!)

So should I be looking at the prices for a slightly different service under a different name?
