cPanel is an easy to use control panel, maybe you have to contact your hosting company for help.

I don't believe you can password protect public_html.
You would have to set up an intro page to your site and then password protect.

    The whole site?
Meaning that no one can get in unless they have a password?
Just password protect public_html and you should be in business.

Yup, I think the whole site will work, just a silly family site. I may leave the homepage open to view, but not allow anyone to go anywhere else without a password. Not sure yet really

in cpanel can you password protect the whole site, goto password protected directories then click on public_html then give it a username and password

you can do it using .htaccess as well but this is easier.

Thanks! I would do that but have decided to figure out how to just password inner pages and leave the homepage viewable, but unable to go further on any navigation without password confirmation....there has to be a way to this somehow

With cpanel it's extremely easy, just select the internal folders you want pass protected.

Best would be to have one main internal folder and pass protect it.

I thought of doing that originally, but then decided I only really need the inside pages password protested. It not a money making site, just family fun.

Guys its very easy to protect your public_html folder in cPanel. In cPanel 11 you will have an option to protect directories. Just click that and enter an username and password and select the directory you want password protect. Save it and your done....! Nobody can access the directory until the username and the pass is entered...!
