Thread: Why don't people trust Cheap web hosting services anymore?

I'm going through many internet mediums and find out that most of the people don't trust cheap web hosting services anymore. There are some reliable cheap hosting companies as well such as justhost. So why not?

You get what you pay for.

I've been with a hosting company for 3 or 4 years now, never had any problems with them. I'm glad I chose them, and the main reason I did was the previous 10 years experience they had in the industry. They don't even cost that much, I'm paying about $10/month.

I've heard too many stories of people going with cheaper alternatives only to have problems - either with downtime, server speed running slow, or trouble with their customer service team not responding when you want something (e.g. to transfer a domain).

I don't think I would change hosting companies now either because of the good service i've had so far with this company.

One of the point mentioned by tsdesigns should be considered even if you are going for cheap web hosting services. Age of the web hosting provider in the hosting industry. If the hosting provider has a good experience in serving clients for a long term, you can definitely go with them. Just make sure they offer 24/7 customer support via different channels and 100% uptime guarantee.

There are a lot of hosts who are cheap and just recently opened their doors - they are the ones I don't trust.
I do trust cheap hosts who have been around since 1997 like my provider. Time is trust.

And dont forget a lot of new cheap hosting companies are being started by 16 15 and 14 year olds who think its a quick way to make money!

Exactly. I just don't trust the recently opened hosts. They don't have a proven track record and can leave you in the dust WITHOUT your money.
Make sure the host you get is a corporation and not a personally owned one.

It is because of the performance. We need to be aware that in order to have a positive outcome, patience is the key

Thanks all for providing your views on cheap hosting services, I must say people have to search a bit and try to read user-reviews on forums or other review sites in order to get to know the quality of services.

the price cannot be an indicator. It may be high at weak hosting but also may be low at quality.

Not always the cheap hosting services are bad, sometimes you can get better service from cheap hosting providers. All that matters is the uptime guarantee and response time from the support department. The hosting provider you choose should offer you at least 99.95% uptime guarantee SLA and 24/7 customer support through various channels.

Not all cheap web hosting companies cannot be trusted. The few bad ones had brought out that perceptions. There are still a lot of web hosting companies that offer cheap services that can be trusted. They offer cheap services not because of downgraded service but because of the stiff competition in the industry.

1. New host could be a fly by night host.
2. Could be run by teenagers looking for fast money, therefore potentially lacking trust and service.
3. Smaller hosts may not have the resources your website may require.
4. May not have the technical knowledge to assist you if needed.

All these issues are reason enough not to trust cheap, small and/or new hosts.

Recently actually, one of my employees who is into blogging, bought hosting from a newly opened host. The host closed within a week and took his 5 month deposit with them. There isn't anything he can do unless he spends more money to investigate.

This happens way too much so I highly recommend trust worthy hosts are the only ones that should be considered.

Actually the main reason is that they want Good services and most of the cheap service providers are not offering good services. People dont want any issues in hosting that is why they spend some extra money and go with good service provider.

I agree with you. I run a hosting company and I don't believe it's the cost it's the customer service quality. I know that's our main focus at our company is making sure we address any issues that might come up.

Because as long as you address them in an honest manner they will be happy. The other thing I have learned in my 10 plus years of website building and hosting that any size company can host any size site. You just have to know the tricks or features to add on to the server/plan to make it work

As with anything cheap, it may very well always come to be too good to be true...There is no way that a cheap web hosting company will be able to provide you all of the extensive features, bandwidth, services, customer support and quality of a more expensive host.

On the other hand, most hosting service prices are extremely bloated, and customers are charged for nothing but hype....so as with anything, prior to purchasing do extensive research.

Most often than not, you get what you pay for!

Exactly, sometimes you can get a host that provides cheap pricing along with great service but you will have to AND MUST try them out before hand.
It is your money and you want to get the most bang out of your buck so do your research and trials.

Cheap hosting only provide minimum support, in most situation they are not stable. My website has been hack by SQL injection, is it painful for me to migrate all content.

It seems to me that cheap web hosting always ends up costing more in the end. Bad support and down time will eat up your own time and thus money. The industry has in recent years been filled with small companies that set up, gain customers and then disappear. Promised refunds are nearly impossible to obtain. Spend a few extra dollars a month and go with a company that is reliable and has some longevity. It doesn't have to be one of the big names. There are several mid-range hosting companies that provide solid support and uptime at a good value.

The cheap and free hosting companies might not be able to deliver the perfect hosting assistance and support. 24/7 technical support is the most important factor, any web hosting company must have the resources to provide with this feature. Web hosting is an investment therefore make sure to invest with the right web hosing company.
