Default Help with site transfer to new host

    Hello,

I'm testing a new free host and I transfered the site via FTP to the public_html folder with out any problems. The site is in a subfolder. When I type the domain in my browser the site does not come up. It shows a page with INDEX of/ and then the subfolder. How do I fix this? I didn't experience this with my last host.

    Thanks.

For your site to load when you go to domain.com you should have everything in the main directory, like your index.php or whatever the file is.. if it is in a subfolder it won't automatically load unless you open the subfolder..

You can simply just copy the files to the main public_html directory.

Another option is to use a .htaccess file with mod_rewrite to redirect to the subdirectory upon loading. This requires mod_rewrite and .htaccess support which may be disabled on a "free" host.

Of course the simpler way to solve this is to upload your web site to the primary (public_html) directory.

This is default document issue. Better rename ur main page as index.xxx or default.xxx
Its free host, so may be add on domains.. better check with the hosting prividers to change the default page to u

You can find automatic mod rewriters on the net that do all the hard coding to you

You should ask your new hosting providers to this for you.
This service will be free on common host.

Yes, if you are not much into technical stuffs then you should always get back to your hosting service provider for such issues, they should help you in this.

What you should do s to contact the webhost that you want to transfer the domain to.Generally when transferring a host here is what you need to do. The steps are :
-Use your favorite FTP utility to download all files to your computer from your web host.
-Transfer your domain name and change the Domain Name Server (DNS)
-Once the domain name has been transferred, upload
the files to your new Web Host.
-Transfer web pages to the New Host.
-Once the domain name and your web site files have been transferred,
you should test that all services are working on the your new Host
This is all you should have done

Use your FTP and just transfer all files into the public folder instead of the subfolder. This will bring it forward easily.
