Default What happened to all the $1 Hosting Plans?

    Hi All:

I've been looking for a cheap hosting plan to put my new forum site on. I finally found a likely looking one at nolimitserver.biz but it took me a good while to weed out the redirections to search engines.

9 months ago I started out by hosting my first site on a $1 hosting plan which didn't last long, (make a domain name out of 3 & ix), but there were a plethora of hosts to choose from in that range. Following links to "$1" hosting now usually leads to hosting plans that are a lot more than $1. Have they all gone bust & Google hasn't caught up yet?

Those ultra cheap hosting plans are usually offered by hosting resellers who are often new. Why would you want to entrust something as important as your website to someone like that? No one could really stay in business offering $1 per month plans - heck in most cases PayPal would take nearly half that in fees!

My advice spend a few dollars and get yourself some real hosting. You can get an account from HostGator or similar for less than $10 per month.

For my first site I changed to an Australian host for AUD$6 a month after about 2 weeks of constant problems which was a good move. My new site is more aimed at an international audience & may or may not take off so I don't want to invest much in it. Free hosting has too many limitations on PHP sendmail and so on so I want to get all the features of a paid account but not the cost.

Honestly, if you aren't willing to invest a few dollars per month on hosting for your website then you would probably be better off just dropping the idea. Thats just my opinion but to me if I didnt have enough confidence in a website or idea to spend even 7 to 10 for hosting I wouldnt spend any time or energy on it at all.

I start a site on free hosting, then buy a domain name if it starts taking off, then move to $1 hosting to make use of the additional features, then move to a better hosting service if continues to grow.

You definitely get what you pay for but the last $1 hosting service had a 30 day money back warranty and I didn't actually pay for it

    The title should be:

What happened to all the oversellers?

There are still some low cost hosters but as said earlier many are kids looking to make a quick buck massively overselling their 10gb reseller account with loads of 100gb $1 accounts.
