Thread: My host has offered this to me.

Have been on a shared hosting for 4 years for few of my sites.. off lately my host has offered me Private servers and MSQL service, so basically i get a private server with 150 mb of ram for just $5 a month,as compared to the $10 i pay for shared hosting a month right now.
I get unlimited amount of bandwidth and disk like i used to get for my shared hosting and the rest features remains the same, should i accept this offer from them?

If it's working fine now why change? If they are offering it to you as a "loyalty reward" I'd probably ask for some free months on the current plan instead. Moving to a VPS you'd have a different IP address and have to do the site migration.

If thats all it is then i'd accept it. A dedicated server for $5 cheaper a month? Totally accept it.

I doubt thats all it is though. There must be a catch there somewhere. They wouldn't offer you a dedicated server for that cheap. Maybe for a trial run of a few months if you accepted to buy a 12 month plan or something, but not forever.

I'd run for the hills (from that offer), personally.

A VPS for $5 per month? Even with a small amount of RAM I can't imagine that that VPS would be too stable.

Plus... I assume it wouldn't be managed? Plus for $5 per month, you wouldn't get DA or cPanel?

That is way too cheap...investigate it further or try something more recognizable.

I would be skeptical. That offer seems too good to be true. They are either overselling, or stuffing you on a low power Atom server at that point. Stable VPS usually costs $30 or more per month. Also, like someone else said, if you're not having any problems now you should keep your current plan.
