These deals are few and far between, but you can find one every now and then. In my opinion, its not really free, if you have to buy other stuff, as what will happens is one ends up paying too much for what you are buying, in order to get the free domain.

As Mike said... Its never going to be free, hosts might offer it... but there will always be strings attached

I know as a fact many hosts give free domains with hosting packages. Other hosts are rip offs and don't offer the same deal.

Yeah i've noticed there's always some strings attached also.

No such thing as a free lunch I am afraid. Also with the cost of hosting coming down as it is, it is becoming increasingly difficult for hosting companies to give stuff away.

I know that when I designed my Packages I offered free domains for the first year for my Gold and Platinum Packages if the customer paid for a year.
and the year package is cheaper then monthly so they are getting a good deal and i get a customer for the year its a win win situation. I lose a little for the first year but I know they will stay as a customer because I put 110% in making them happy

I like the tip no 2 to get a free domain.It is true that most web hosting companies offers a free domain with web hosting.I think it is a good plan and it is also affordable.Most web hosting companies also offer free domain for lifetime if we renew web hosing plan for a year.

Tip #2 is what I take advantage of with my current host. I can have any domain I want as long as I have any sort of hosting plan with them. So I could be paying $3 a month for a shared plan (which is ridiculously cheap) and get a domain!

That is as good as it gets I think.

I thought you're talking about free hosting companies offering you a free domain. I've heard this is a real deal, but still can't find anything like that
