    Default Dreamhost

The host I use now is Dreamhost, there packages are amazing. It is almost to good to be true.

    Space: 145.6 GB
    Bandwidth: 1.456 TB
Plus space grows weekly by 1 GB and Bandwidth by 16 GB a week!
    Only $10 a month!!

It is just amazing. Always up and has great support 24/7 too!

What is everyones thought on this? No, there are no hidden charges that are not listed on the site.

Check out the plans here. Web Hosting by DreamHost Web Hosting: Web Sites, Domain Registration, WordPress, Ruby on Rails, all on Debian Linux!

It is to good to be true.................
More space and bandwidth than my dedicated servers, terms more than likely keep it so nobody can get to anywhere near the supposed allotted space and bandwidth. Even if you could get close I would than fear they are over selling their servers to the extremes.

For what it's worth, ya'll know how picky I am about hosting. Dream host is pretty decent.. I've been on and off with them through 3 different accounts, I'm finally on a decent server.

My biggest complaint is databases are all piled on different servers from your hosting along with every other database. At times severing database powered sites can be painfully slow. They have really improved in the last year though.

I have never seen a host before in my life that grows weekly like this one. If you are with them long enough you could have a TB of Space! That is more than you can dream of.

Which I am willing to bet nobody will ever get that much space from them. Be realistic, that is more than DEDICATED servers offer. That's more space and bandwidth than my dual xeon server with 2 gigs of ram.

My time with them was excellent but I did not run any strenuous sites with them so I don't know how well they handle stress, the only reason I left is I prefer to have cpanel.

I'd be reading the fine print, I'm sure there are 'within reason' statements abound.

    Exactly.

I'm not saying they are not a great host, just I doubt the space/bandwidth they give is the same as having a dedicated server with the same specs.

It's more than likely next to impossible to even get close to those limits w/o being booted.

I had DreamHost for a while. I had several SQL outages, and 2 major server outages. I can't say anything nice about DreamHost.

However, IowaDawg has great hosting for a much better price.

As much as I gripe about DreamHost, I really cannot complain too much. All in all, their support is very fast to respond, even when I write in with a mildly stupid question. Their the only host I know that actually keeps people abreast of issues via DreamHostStatus.com I don't have any thing mission critical running @ DH. Just a few blogs and a couple of forums. If something catches on and starts getting a decent amount of traffic, I'll move it to it's own VPS or fully dedicated as long as it's pulling it's own weight moneywise.

I get just as POed as the rest when my sites are down but in reality, I'm loosing maybe a few $.00023 cent adsense clicks during the time the sites are down. I can live with that.

If you're serious about site uptime and making money online then you don't run it out of a $10 a month host. You go with a good shared host at worst, at best you move to your own fully dedicated.

    You know the old saying.....

Even then you have outages. My main server was down for 2 hours+ last night!

Another one of my servers was down for several hours one week then over a day the next!

Normally you do get better uptime with a dedi, but shit still happens.

I use dreamhost as well for a few of my sites, there there are huge downloads (videos etc) so at least it allows me to keep the sites online while other sites hosted on hostgator and servint threat to go offline every end of the month.

honestly, dreamhost very good for their price and the support is excellent.

Dreamhost was great for me too, I just didn't like the lack of cpanel and also agree, they're not good for server intensive websites, such as a forum, basic sites are fine on their servers.

did you have a VPS with servint? I don't see why they would threaten with a VPS unless you were breaking a TOS or something as the cpu and memory, etc are more independant than a standard hosting account.

    i meant "theating" figuratively speaking

a friend of mine has a dedicated server with servint, which he used for hosting webmaster's sites who participated in his forum, so as a co-admin i got to host one website that uses a lot of BW on there... prob is, every time ANYONE of the users breaks the tos (like running cracked vB), they suspend the account if u dont respond to their warning within 24 hours, which often ends up in a spam box anyway. it's worse than having ur own sell in a shared hosting because u cant possibly monitor everyone...

That's pretty common actually, they need those terms in place. If they didn't they themselves could have the plug pulled on their operation and everyone of their customers could be SOL.

You can't monitor everyone, but that's the price you pay when your resell services and the responsibility you must take as well.
