Default Managing domain forward while retaining subdomain

    Here's my current setup:

    1) olddomain.com is currently hosted. Yahoo is registrar and DNS servers point to my Web host.

    2) subdomain.olddomain.com exists on olddomain.com

    3) newdomain.com is not hosted. Yahoo is registrar and DNS servers point to my Web host.

Here's what I'd like to do:

    1) Forward olddomain.com to newdomain.com. Visitors are forwarded to the new domain.

    2) Keep subdomain.olddomain.com as-is. Visitors see the same old url in the address bar.

What's my best move? What if I:

    1) Create a new hosting account with my Web host for newdomain.com. Forward olddomain.com to newdomain.com through my registrar.

Will this work? What will happen to subdomain.olddomain.com? Will it also forward? If so, do I need to register a new url and give the subdomain its own Web site?

Thanks to anyone and all who can help!

You can use .htaccess to redirect the domains. If you have WHM you can try editing the dns zone to keep the subdomain as is.....

Thanks, Kalina. I got some htaccess help from one of my Web host's administrators, and the issue is worked out for now.

However, I'd like to learn more about the process.

What are WHM and the dns zone?

WHM is a cpanel product, it usually comes with reseller accounts, you can read about it here: cPanel - The Leading Control Panel

How much control over DNS do you have? I've never used Yahoo's domain controls.

Cyberbite, Yahoo allows you to adjust your DNS settings as necessary.

The only time I change my DNS settings is when I'm pointing a url to a particular Web host.
