Thread: Your thoughts on my site idea?

Hi all:

I am hoping to get some feedback.

I am trying to position my site as a "Start Page" so people who set my site as their home page, have a place where they can find links to all the most popular, interesting, useful sites on the web.

What do you think?

Would you use something like this?

Any feedback would be great!

To be honest Mike most of those site I know by heart or I added to with the plugin in FF.

I could not see me using it but people starting out on the net could find it very helpful.

What do you plan on doing to earn money from the site?

Thanks for the feedback, this latest version of the site is not as much about making money, as it is about me having all my favorite links on one page so I can get to them even from other computers when I dont have my bookmarks handy.

Althou I am still working on the site, and have not paid much attention to monetizing yet, I do have 200x30 pixel spots for sale on fiverr.com. $5 for six months. I am also about to offer them for $1 a month thru paypal subscription. Also, on the sites that have affiliate programs I am signed up for those.

So really it wont be a big money maker, just a convenience for me and those that don't have all the urls memorized like you!! LOL

You should post an ad here someone might pick up a few of those $5 spots that's a good deal

if you want to make a homepage site, you need to make it highly customizable, and you're competiting with sites like google, yahoo and msn in this realm.

They do a very good job because they allow users to highly cvustomise the homepages, pull in rss feeds/widgets from their favorite sites, ad custom link pages, and obviously web search [the most impoRTANT PART OF A HOMEPAGE].

for a long time I had a custom html local site with all my favourite pages logos and links on, a bit like your site, the difference was that it would load up very fast because the site was on my computer, so I could click home at any time and Id be returned to my custom links page almost immediately.

your "home page" will be a lot slower, and may evebn be slower than google/yahoo/msn depending on the speed of your server. If its shared hosting then I'm assuming a lot slower.

Secondly it's not customisable. You dont want to see a site with lots of random links, you want to see a site with links that you use regularly.

It needs to be customizable.

most of the logos you use have a white background, you need to also use a white background to enable the logos to display nicely.. the grey background just makes it look terrible right now.

About the "customizable" comment, yes, I have looked into this, and will be adding some customizable elements in the future.

About the "color" comment, well, at the moment, I have a ton of work to do content wise that takes priority over any aesthetic changes. Yes, I see your point and eventually will get to that, but at the moment I have higher priorities.

just checking but i dont know what the site is specific about cuz has only the link to other social bookmarking site. How does it work?
