Default Am I working for less than I should be getting paid? (Please Help)

A client wants me to re-write about 300,000 words for them. What I have to do is just make the articles grammatically correct and such. Like I said, the articles are already written, I just have to go through them and fix the punctuation, capitalization, etc.

What price would you charge for completing this job(re-writing 300,000 words)?

Well at just 0.01 per word it would be $3000 !! and I wouldnt even do it for that price as it sounds like a HUGE job that would take a long time to complete

That's true. Rewriting 300,000 words is a _gigantic_ job, and $3000 is really not enough in my opinion.
Some people write articles for $0.01 pr. word, but they usually contain like 1-400 words. 300,000 words will take 750 times longer to write, and you should get paid reasonable = more than $3000.

300,000 words... that's like 3 (thick) PhD theses... or 7,500 pages full of just print.
I ask myself how long would it take to read 7,500 pages? I reckon you could do 15 pages, complete with minor corrections, in an hour. That would would work out at 500 hours total (or 2 full months at 8 hours a day).
What do you think is a fair salary for 2 months work?
Personally I think $3000 (about $1500/£750 per month) is too cheap.

I'd have to agree with everyone above, $3000 sounds too cheap to me for this.

Also, are there time restrictions on your doing it? If so how long have you got? As said by CB, you'd want a good few months to do it properly (and even then it'd be very repeatitive and boring i'd think which is one reason i'd ask for more money).

Frankly speaking, it is all about quality. If you write for magazine, you can earn up to $1 per word. However, for those online job, re-write is in lower price, i can get a writer to rewrite with $1000 for 300K words. There are too many "writer" now, and some even provide 300 words unique article with only $1. You can check at getafreelancer.com

    3000$ it's a reasonable price.
The problem is that you have some Eastern countries rewriters that would do it for almost nothing.

But that is a lot of work. Maybe you can assume how many hours you'll be working for that one, and then calculate how much you have to be paid by the hours you think would be enough for you to finish the project.

I think what you have to do is edit and not re-writing. When you say re-writing, its writing the whole article in a different way. If you're just fixing punctuations, go through them and etc, then that's editing. For editing, you can charge then $3k but if you have to re write, then that's a different thing, you have to charge more.

300,000 words!? :surprised: Wow! That's really overwhelming. But if the price is right, I wouldn't mind biting the bait. IMO, $3,000 would be sufficient if your skill is about average for the task involved, so go for it. Besides, there are so many freelancers out there that would probably charge lower than that. Especially through outsourcing in some parts of Asia.

    $3k is reasonable I guess. But the $1 for 300 words? I don't think that's reasonable enough.

It is necessary to know your price and to evaluate your skills and knowlegde correctly. If you will evaluate yourself highly - the same will do those around you including your employers.
