Default Summer Break is Breaking my Work Habits!

UGH! Summer break just started here I know have both kids home with me and I don't know how I'll get work done anymore without working late everynight. I hate the guilt I have working during the day and the kids just want to go places and have fun mixed with getting work done for clients. I have got to figure out a new schedule quick or everyone will end up mad at me! Anyon else have this issue?

Why I went part time at the casino.
Grandkids out of school, etc etc.

Unlike being a parent, as a grandparent, I do make time for all the grandkids and their functions, etc etc.

It's a tough balance for sure, especially in your case Kim.

That's why I goof off o much b/c I have such small windows of free time with the little Mrs. being home all week. During the school year she's at our 'mother's day out' program at church but that's only T/TH 9-2.

Now that the summer is here, and she being an only child ATM, I'm mr. play pal most of the time.

Can you maybe compromise with them somehow. MWF = activity days but T/TH = mommy time?

    Or somehting like that

Thats what I have to do, major schedule changes. I'm trying to set up time and events to keep to everyday but still getting it setup. Luckily there are alot of great library programs here so Mondays will become library day, play dates are nonstop right now which has to become more controlled...somehow. But I don't know if Scott said anything in here yet but we may be about to go through a major change in our family dynamic. He is in the midst of accepting a position which would have him moving to Boston so I may be back to single parent lifestyle during the week so that will throw everything into chaos and may force me to work less online. I love stress and big life changes LOL The reality is having him gone during the week will be no different then life out west was for us (he was in charge of like 6 states and we saw him Saturdays basically before he would fly out again), but we got used to having him around again the past year and a half or so so it will be weird again to not have him here. Nothing set yet but it looks like it may happen.

Luckily by this time everyday I just give up and say "To the POOL!" LOL keeps everyone happy then atleast for a couple hours. I swear, when I grew up though I got up in the summer had breakfast, wasn't seen again until lunch and then dinner. I miss times when the world wasn't so crazy and kids could run around in a neighborhood being kids and we didn't worry about their safety as much as we have to now! My mother never amused me, if I told he I was bored she'd say "Do you want me to give you something to do?" which always ended up being cleaning or something not fun, so I never went to her for activities again LOL. Kids aren't as independent as I was forced tobe, thats the point of this useless rant LOL

I know what you mean Kaos, how we feel the need to entertain our kids even though we grew up so differently... it's a different world. I wrote an article about kid's boredom here.

It's a tough balance, mine just started daycamp, so that will give me about 5 hours alone in the mornings... do you have anything like that in your area?

Good luck with all... and don't stay up TOO late, you'll regret it in the morning; I know, cuz I always do!!

I decided on a camp free summer this year. I wasn't thrilled with the camp I sent my oldest to last year so I decided to just let her be a kid and have fun this year... still not sure that was the best choice. Now I deal with the doorbell ringing all day for playing outside with her annoying friend next door. I figure I will have a schedule down right before she gets back to school LOL
