Yes, youtube is now being sued for one billion us dollars!
Should be interesting to see how this suit plays out.
(hope Viacom wins myself)

This will be interesting now..!
Wow, another law suit from their youtube venturemg:
I hope Viacom loses. It is obious that youtube makes a concious effort to fight piracy. They make it extremely easy for companies to remove infringing videos.
Does this mean you tube is not free anymore to view? $1 Billion is not a joke..![]()
I don't think this will lead to anywhere anyway.

But not all that surprising really. Obviously there is copyright issues, even if they try to monitor it. This will be interesting indeed!

Why would they sue them? Do they take into consideration all the peopel that go out and buy their dvds after they see something on a friends Myspace page. My best example is when I seen a snippet of a South Park episode on a friends page. It was the one where they are making fun of World Of Warcraft. I went to Wal-Mart and bought that whole season. I would have never bought that if my friend would have never embedded it on his page.
So hopefully they go to court and are ordered to give Youtube 10x the amount they themselves are suing for.
My oppinion; Which is always right :1963:

I heard about this before......I would bet that Youtube will win..
I doubt viacom will win this case though... $1b??
Of course they are suing after YT is bought by G.

Both of you need some business and marketing expertise before putting out a statement like that.
Whether a company makes money or not, there are other factors in play.
Plant, possible advertising, and so much more.
Look at amazon in the past, they were sued right and left before they ever made a dime.
They won some, lost most or made deals.
And again, the parent company of a company, in this instance google is the parent company of youtube, is liable for any judgements, loss of income, etc.
Without giving my opinion, you do have to look at the entire suit, the wording of it, to get a sense of exactly what viacom wants.

Thats a bad news for youtube!
I can't really say I know much about the law, but shouldn't it be the uploaders responsability to check whether the content they're uploading onto youtube is copyrighted or not? YouTube seem to have alot in place to try and stop this happening, and have always seemed pretty quick to take down certain videos.
I wonder if it'll be DailyMotion, MetaCafe and all the rest next, it'll be interesting to see how it plays out in court, although I think it may swing in Viacoms favour, especially with all the anti-piracy hype at the moment.
