Thread: Only bodies under toppled ferry- Philippines

I saw this horrible news and I really feel pity to those who died in this phenomena.

MANILA (AP) — Divers managed to get inside an upside-down ferry Tuesday but found only bodies and no survivors three days after the vessel capsized during a powerful typhoon with more than 800 people aboard, officials said.

Philippines Navy spokesman Lt. Col. Edgard Arevalo would not speculate on whether anyone still might be found alive but indicated the amount of time passed since the disaster made it unlikely. He said the ship's interior was too dark to even determine how many bodies were there.

Sad to hear that

I saw that too. Just awful to think about those poor people, and even their families waiting with hope that they would be found.

Oh boy, what a horrible way to die

If it was sinking slowly people might have had a chance to escape but with it toppling over the chances of anyone escaping are few and far between.

Are you familiar with titanic? It was the same way those people die, suffocation. They didn't know where to go. And the worst part is their body cannot be retrieve because it will sink if the rescuers will make a hole on that ship, the oil might spill or the air inside might come out and it will just make the ship sink more. The bodies on that ship were bloated, it was almost 7 days from now since it sink.

So the family can't even bury them in a better place?

I read this and its terrible. So sad.

This is very sad, I have gone to the Philipines almost every year for a holiday. But the fact of the matter is that the ferry shouldn't have sailed. That shipping company has a lot to explain for.

Some may have gotten free, so at least their families will have closure.

MANILA (Reuters) - The Philippine coast guard has found about 50 bodies floating around 100 km north of a capsized ferry in the centre of the archipelago, a spokesman said on Wednesday.

Lieutenant-Colonel Edgard Arevalo said they could not yet confirm if the corpses were from the Princess of the Stars, which capsized in a typhoon on Saturday with 865 passengers and crew on board.

More than 700 people are still missing from the vessel.
