Thread: What If The Indians Had Won The Fight For America?

Just read an interesting article about what if the native American Indians had managed to stem the influx of Europeans and banded together for a "free" America..

Being military minded, we probably would have tried to stop the threat of Communism in Cuba and other places in our region. But, since it was more a war of ideology, we may not have joined in the fight to stop Communism in Vietnam. We probably wouldn't have gone to Afghanistan to stop the Russians. And, therefore, we wouldn't have armed the guys who later became the Taliban and Al Queda. We also wouldn't have been in such direct alliance with Israel, or gotten so involved when the Ayatollah overtook the Shah of Iran in the 1970's. But, in trying to stop Iran (also a war of ideology -- they were no real threat to us), we ended up arming Iraq. This allowed Saddam Hussein to invade Kuwait in 1990, which made us (being the do-gooders and greedy oil-lovers that we are) put troops in Saudi Arabia, the true Holy Land of Islam. Putting troops in Saudi Arabia is what made Osama Bin Laden form Al Queda, who were by then well-armed with weapons provided to them by the U.S. government 20 years before, when we were trying to stop Russia from taking Afghanistan. Oh, the irony....

What If The Indians Had Won?

What do you think? Would things have been like this, better, or worse? I guess then we'd have no Washington Redskins, tho we might still have the Cleveland Indians..

Sorry, one thing the Indians did not have in great abundance.

Plus at some point, white people would have been landing on so much coast line, that the Indians would not have been able to stem the tide.

Kind of pointless effort, but worth the read.

And gave them firewater!
Something they still enjoy today, in a greater percentage that the general population.

I think they repaid our "kindness" by giving us tobacco and casinos.

I think the Indians have perfected that concept.

if we had won we would have never gone through residential schools or been placed on these godforsaken reservations.

But if you are talking about the USA and not Canada, then some of our enemies would be gone Just Kiddin'

There would be less African Americans. I personally think that America would be a more spiritual place. But then again if they had to keep up with the rest of the world, their governments would be just like every other.

Think about it... thanks to America, most European countries got wealthy. They took back lots of gold to finance their armies. They were practically cut off from the major trading routes by the Arabs and Moors... that's why Colombus went on his "discovery" in the first place... to find a different route to India. Spain would still be under the control of the Moors. The world today would be completely different.

Think its funny most of the comments centered around current events ( last 30-40 years). The changes would have been much earlier. If the Indians had stopped western migration or even ousted the original colonies, they would have been attacked by Spain and Britain both repeatedly. Odds are they would have not survived the additional wars. Course our world would be a totally different place if it had happened. And the ramifications way too drastic to speculate about.

Be a nice idea for a book or mini-series, eh?

Yeah, would take some research though. I can't remember the author's name but he wrote a whole series of books about the confederacy winning the civil war and the changes it would have wrought. Books looked good, read good but I couldn't bring myself to read them. I started confusing myself on what really happened versus what he conjured up.

Can't find it yet, but am sure a book was written about the indians keeping the americas (all indians, such as aztecs, incas, and so forth).

i dont think that indians are able to win the fight bcus they are not well armed.

I read The guns of the South By Harry Turtledove, the dutch time travel and give ak-47s to the south, they win, but they still do away with slavery
