Bernie Mac dies at 50

Comedian Bernie Mac died this morning in a Chicago hospital

Comedian and Chicago native Bernie Mac died early Saturday morning from complications due to pneumonia, his publicist confirmed.

Mac, 50, had been hospitalized for about a week at Northwestern Hospital, according to his spokeswoman. A few years ago, Mac disclosed that he suffered from sarcoidosis, a rare autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in tissue, most often in the lungs.

I read this earlier and was shocked. I knew he was in the hospital but they said he would be released this week sometime...

I was never a big fan of his, but I found some of his stuff funny.

I was not a big fan of the Bernie Mac Show, but I sure believed him to be an asset to the cast of one of my favorite movie series ever, the "Ocean's" movies!

50 is pretty young to go these days.

I only knew him from the Ocean movies and Transformers. He was great in those.

I didn't even know he was in the hospital..

Yeah, he's been sick for a while. If you look at later episodes of the Bernie Mac show you could see there was something wrong with him. He was all swollen looking and talked a lot slower than he used to.

I never really watched the Bernie Mac show until recently but once I watched it a few times I was hooked. The kids steal the show IMHO.

That sucks 50 is so young. I am pushing 40 and have been shot, hit with shrapnel from IED's, been in fight with pro fighters and in barfights. Stabbed and hit with cars.

I have sarcoidosis just like Mac and something like pneumonia could take me out in a few days.

Sad that he should die so young. 50 is too young for a person to die. At least he has left a variety of comedy clips for us to enjoy forever

The guy is not familiar, but I think he is good, for people will not considered him as a good actor. RIP Mr. Mac..

I honestly hated his show and the way he 'acted' or was it his real persona?

So I guess Mac had an attack and won't be coming back. Poor chap.

I just found this out recently. Had no idea. Hell, I didn't even know Isaac Hayes had passed. I've been pretty wrapped up for the last year.

Very sad, indeed.

Isaac Hayes died after Bernie Mac. They both died in the last 3 days.

I think that is pretty young to die. I am sure all of his friends and relatives are very sad. I thought he was ok in the oceans 11 series but not nearly as good as George Clooney.

This is truly shocking news.Bernie Mac was an American actor and comedian. He also hosted in HBO TV in Mac's night. He was really a king of comedy. Prayers and condolences to his family.
