$100 ‘sorry’ rejected for mouse in green beans - Food Inc. - MSNBC.com

LEHI, Utah - An Arkansas company is offering $100 to a Utah woman who found a severed mouse head in a can of green beans if she pledges not to take legal action.

The letter from Allens Inc. of Siloam Springs, Ark., describes it as a "gesture of goodwill." Marianne Watson isn't interested.

"I won't sign it under any circumstances," she said.

Yeah there really should have made the offer more enticing, especially in our sue-happy country

Double edged sword though, make it more enticing and they open the doors to copy cats, fakes, etc.

I'm sure she suffered "server emotional trauma" and will need at least 1 Million to "get over it."

whaa? that doesn't make any sense. I'd tell the press that she put the mouse head in there, i bet she ate the rest of the mouse cause she's a fat ass. Who eats green beans anyways. Or tell her to F*** off and go buy a stripper for $100.

...after all...where is the rest of the mouse..did she mistakenly eat it? In that case, i would have paid to watch her do it.

$100 is more than laughable. they should at least have ponied up $1K! unless of course this happens every 2 or 3 weeks :eek:

How do you figure? Accidents can and will happen, no matter what precautions are made it's simply an 'accident'

Everyone loves low priced foods, but god forbid those low priced foods once in a million times comes with a bad item in them.

Yes it's gross, people now a days though are such pussies it's unreal. I myself can't stand even a bug near my food, I however would not even consider suing and having a company shut down for an accident. Stuff such as this was common place years ago, bugs in flour for instance. Technology has evolved to the point it rarely ever happens, even then though people are sue happy and fail to realise the complexity involved and the fact that once in awhile accidents will simply happen.

I guess you'd rather pay 10x as much though to make the chances go from 1 million to 1 to 1.2 million to 1 hey?

If a company has quality control per FDA guidelines, it should not happen at all. Companies get lazy, cut corners, trying to save money. The end result is a mouse in your can of beans. We as consumers should never stand for it. I am a Supervisor at a lab that makes medical devices. If I caught anyone of my techs going against what the FDA requires, I would fire them instantly. I have no tolerance for low quality.

Low price should NEVER equal low quality. I will not tolerate it. I don't want lead in my kids' toys, and I don't want to open a can of beans and have a mouse head floating in it. It not about being a wimp, it's about holding people and companies accountable.

How do you know corners were cut, or guidelines were not followed? That's a bit different story.

Producing lab equipment is also totally different than harvesting beans with huge machines and canning them.

Accidents can and will happen, unless you can prove they broke guidelines I don't see why they should be sued or shut down.

Low prices almost always equals lower quality, you get what you pay for.

If you have ever been in a canning factory, or a bottling factory, you would not really know the speed of cans and bottles coming down the line to be filled.
Such factories have people that do nothing but check the filling stations to make sure nothing but the product gets in.
And even then, accidents can happen and dust, dirt, insects, etc can get into these stations.

I remember when I was a kid, picking beans, berries, and so forth.
We used to put rocks in the sacks to get more weight as we were paid by the pound.

ya know..@#$% happens sometimes..but i mean this county is a very litigious society..people sue people for anything these days..I think its sad..people need to learn how to solve problems themselves rather than leaving it to a thirds party..who 90% of the time is more moronic than you are..Idiots
