    Default Yahoo 'No Refund' Policy

I have had a mouthful experience with Yahoo.
I booked around 100 domains an year ago and I was about to give up on the domain thing as I am running 5 pretty good sites.
The domains were to expire by 28th February. I thought I would just cancel them out. Today I checked my Yahoo account and BINGO, the domains have already been renewed on 25th of January for another year!!!
    Straight loss of $1000.
Now if you are to say, I should have turned off the Auto Renewal, I can very well understand, yes it was my mistake.
But whats with auto-renewing domains over a month ago? I tried to contact Yahoo but there is NO email address where I can contact them.
I called them and the answer was simple and straight NO REFUND!
What is Yahoo upto? Atleast I am never going to buy anything from Yahoo in future ever and just looking up to know if there are other folks who are affected with this ...
    Regards,
    Ady.

It sucks but that's how most registars work. It costs them money to register the domain for you from my understanding, domains are also registered before they expire to make sure you do not lose them.

It sucks but could of / would of happened with most any registar you were with.

But why would they renew them a month in advance of expiration? That totally sucks, $1000 big ones gone, wow! Sorry to hear.

    Good question!
I have mine with GoDaddy and they have never autorenewed any domain of mine, even a day early. It's always exactly on the date on expiry.
Still, I try not to let that happen because they will always renew my domains at full going prices and if I manually renew them a day or two before expiry, I can usually find a coupon online somewhere to get them cheaper.

Hmm I agree that is quite silly... *Goes into Namecheap to make sure auto renewal is off or its 45 of them for me too!*

Thanks for the heads up on this.. I never even would have checked.. However I think it seems Namecheap have Auto renewal turned off as default

Default No problems with other Registerars

    O well,
I have domains with ResellerClub.com (So far THE BEST in the industry I found. But you have to deposit some amount in ur account to open up ur account. Good for bulk purchase, not good for low quantities).
I have domains with GoDaddy.com (Equally good for low quantities and bulk purchase.).
Both of them are awesome. They will send you emails informing that the domains will be deleted.
But Yahoo is just out of my head. My domains were supposed to expire on Feb 28th. I got an email from Yahoo on December 28th with subject 'Your Domains will be auto renewed'. I thought I will cancel this auto renew a couple of weeks prior to expiration.
Mind it, the email I got on December 28th did NOT mention when the domains will be auto renewed.

Other registrars send emails. I got around 4 emails from Resellerclub.com within the last month of expiration to either renew domains or they will be deleted.
ResellerClub and Godaddy do give u option to choose Auto Renew or Manual while registering domains. Yahoo just wont give u that information. Its like 'Go Figure Yourself and save ur bum. We have your credit card and we will renew them on our wish without giving you a good chance to cancel service. We will not even refund your money no matter how much you loose.'

Now this is the BEST part. Some of you will really laugh at this. In November, I transfered a domain NetMarketingFirm.com from Yahoo to Godaddy Registrar. The domain name was transfered and thinking that everything is good, I rested in peace. Recently I saw a charge from Yahoo on my credit card for Renewal of NetMarketingFirm.com
I was surprised that Yahoo did not even hold this domain but they are charging for something which is not even with them anymore. I contacted Yahoo and this is what they said ..
"Although you have transfered your domain name to Godaddy, but you did not CANCEL that account and we renewed that account for $9.95"
I seriously dont understand this thing. I may be wrong, I am ready to accept it, but this nonsense is over my head that Yahoo charges for something which is no longer with them but since the customer did not cancel account, they had the right to charge 1 year registration fee for YAHOO ACCOUNT.
I am mad and seriously, I wish if I had that much money and brain to sue Yahoo! I kinda feel like :2050:

You can blame them from what I know once you renew a domain thats it and final, no one can do anything about it. You can only blame yourself for not disabling the auto renew

If you read my first post, yes I did blame myself
Nevertheless, just started this thread to aware other folks who have domains registered through Yahoo!
I am sure, others have learned something good from this thread.
Atleast they will cancel the auto-renew for the domains they do not wish to renew right away.
Remember, Yahoo may auto-renew domains registered through them "ONE MONTH PRIOR OF EXPIRATION DATE".
    Good luck all domainers.

Any resources you did like to share? I'm always eager to find such good places ... :swink:
