It will be interesting to see how long it takes the US government to approve this, if they will at all.

Oh No man, I dont wish that to happen at all.
I believe if Yahoo, Google and MSN shutdown, the internet will die the next day. Correct me if I'm wrong on this.
These 3 are competitors. As far as all three exist, there is something for everyone to gain ... If Microsoft buys out Yahoo .. hell .. we are left with only two competitors. :scry:

This is certainly interesting, if anything.

I still don't think they can compete with Google on a serious level. Yahoo the half decent search engine being bought out by MSN the really shitty search engine. And they both have crappy PPC networks too.

Even as a combined effort they have a lot ahead of them to catch Google.

Google shares are taking a real beating at the moment though.

I think they will win, Yahoo is too small to be up against the might Microsoft. In the end there will only be two Microsoft and Google

I look forward to someone challenging Google, but the gov't loves to be hard on Microsoft and monopoly's so it will be interesting to see what happens. It was obvious though that this was coming eventually.

I'm surprised that Yahoo would sell. It would definitely be a good buy for Microsoft. We will have to wait and see what happens. Interesting to say the least.

Like we couldn't see this coming? A few months back Yahoo allowed you to add MSN people to your Yahoo messenger list. That was the first sign that the two were cozying up to each other.

I have no "feelings" either way. MSN Live is mediocore at best and Yahoo is good at best. Neither will be able to complete with Google on a serious level as both companies are set in their ways and not much except for branding is going to change I suspect.

All I hope is that Yahoo Messenger stays as is and don't become the crappy bloatware that MSN messenger is. :sshocked:

I don't see it as much of an issue because MS doesn't dominate anywhere in the online arena and Yahoo's business is strictly online.

Umm, that would be a bad idea. Your too late, you needed to buy yesterday. The shares of Yahoo jumped up to almost the price MS was offering to pay first thing this morning. Yahoo yesterday was $19.18 today it opened at $28.70. MS was bidding $31.

So at best, if this deal does happen, there is still a risk it wont, you might make $1 per share. Actually $0.50 per share in cash and the other half in MS stock.

There is really no room at the top for 3 competitors in search engines. MSN used to run Yahoo search and PPC results and this is just going back to what things were.

"In any case, Im going to buy a few hundred of YHOO shares."

This would be very dangerous and probably not worth the hassle even if there is a small profit. Yahoo is unlikely to be able to get more out of Microsoft. The offer also carries a threat that Microsoft may take hostile action if refused. This may include asking a shareholders to elect a board that is receptive to its bid.

Yahoo and MS NEED to merge, if they want to compete with google.

Heck even google wants to buyout yahoo.

Sometimes the weakest links need to work together to beat the strongest link
