    Default Failed to authenticate my site ownership in Site explorer

    I have tried submitting my site in yahoo site explorer but it failed this is what I got instead

    Failed to authenticate your site ownership due to the following reasons:

    We were unable to fetch the verification file (y_key_314cd5b5edc4517d.html) from your site.

    not found (http 404)

    Try:

    * Make sure the file is installed.
    * Fetch the file from your browser.
    * Check the content of the file using "View Source" on your browser.
    * It should look like:

    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML//EN">
    <HTML>
    <!-- 308abc618af1c50b -->
    <HEAD>
    <TITLE>
    </TITLE>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>

    * If the file looks OK, ask your website hosting service if they are blocking Yahoo! Slurp.

    So what will I do now?

    Have you uploaded the file to your website root directory? From the error message you posted above, it looks like the file is currently not available. I'm guessing when you registered with Yahoo you were given either a code/file upload on your server.

    Again, tell us what you've done so far so that we know how to give any further suggestions.

    Now that explains why your site was not verified.
    Go back to Yahoo and read up on how and where to place the code.

    Good luck

    During authenticating the site there is three options upload XML, HTML and Meta tag then choose upload html file when choose then he will give you the download the file and upload it without any changes in root folder.
